Message: Hello everyone! My name is Katya, i'm from Russia. I am a student and writing my graduation research paper about the functions of the word please in oral communication. As 'please' is widely considered a politeness marker I'm also interested to which extent utterances containing the word 'please' and pronounced in a different way are polite. In the questionnaire I've prepared for volunteers I offer you to listen to some 20 utterances and say whether they are polite or not and also try to state the emotional state of the speaker. Any volunteer is welcome to participate in the questionnaire but in the first place I would appreciate Americans taking part in this because my research paper is devoted to the polite intonation in the American English!
