This sounds like an interesting project but I'd like to make a few observations based on these two points: 1) people don't say words in isolation 2) they don't know how they say words. With this method of getting recordings of people's language I think you will get a false reading with the observer's paradox running rampant over the whole thing.
I would suggest that you would have a better chance of getting a real result if you found or wrote a passage containing several of these words and got people to read it aloud. A t least then there's be a context for them. in addition, I think you should not point out to people which words you are actually interested in studying.
